What is Pentathlon?

Pentathlon has a long history in the Olympic Games. There has been changes made to the format and disciplines over time, and now we are happy to announce the most recent one...

After the Paris 2024 Summer Games, Pentathlon will include fencing, swimming, laser-run, and an obstacle course inspired by the global tv show: Ninja Warrior!

(which will replace the equestrian discipline)

Event 1 - Fencing

Two People Fencing

Fencing:

Pentathlon Fencing utilizes the epee format with a target area that includes the entire body, head to toe.

Bouts last for one minute or until one touch is scored. Each athlete fences each athlete for one touch in the competition in a round-robin format.

Points are awarded according to the ration of bouts won to bouts lost

Event 2 - Swimming

Swimming:

Pentathletes swim a 200m freestyle in either a long course or short course pool based on availability.

One Person Swimming

Event 3 & 4 - Running & Shooting

One Person Running Track

Laser Run:

Pentathletes run/shoot in the laser run similar to Biathlon.

Each athlete will run 5 x 600m with a shooting series between each run.

Athletes must hit the target 5 times before running or a 50 second time limit.

Six People Shooting Laser Guns

Event 5 - ALL NEW

Ninja Obstacle Discipline

The newest discipline to Modern Pentathlon is the obstacle event inspired by the hit TV show American Ninja Warrior,

where athletes tackle an 80 to 100m long course with up to 12 obstacles!
